Can we stop using the term NATURAL MAKEUP

Natural makeup vs Glam and why i never want to hear these terms again. Photographer Tetiana Photography

In the world of beauty, the term "natural makeup" is supposed to be used to describe a minimalist, subtle approach to makeup application. However, this term can be incredibly misleading and unhelpful, especially for those seeking guidance or inspiration for their bridal makeup style.

  1. Ambiguity of the Term: The term "natural makeup" is incredibly vague and open to interpretation. What may seem natural to one person could be completely different from another's perspective. This ambiguity makes it difficult for individuals to understand what the term truly encompasses.

  2. No Standard Definition: Unlike terms like "smokey eye" or "contouring," which have specific techniques and outcomes, "natural makeup" lacks a standard definition. This can lead to confusion and frustration, as individuals may not know where to start or how to achieve the desired look.

  3. Misleading Expectations: When people hear "natural makeup," they often assume it just means NOT glam, which then follows by 3-4 pictures of a model from Pinterest highly edited, giant lashes, thick black liner and soft pink lips.

  4. Focus on Outcome: What do you want out of your makeup application? Perfected skin? Glowing, radiant? blushy cheeks not too defined? Bronzed glow? Eyes that look bright and awake with definition at the lash line.

  5. Limiting Creativity: By defining makeup in terms of what is "natural," it can limit creativity and experimentation. Makeup is an art form, and artists should feel free to express themselves in whatever way feels authentic to them, whether that means a bold, dramatic look or a subtle, natural one.

Instead of focusing on achieving a "natural makeup" look, it's more helpful to think about enhancing your natural features and finding a makeup style that makes you feel confident and beautiful. This might involve using a mix of products, techniques, and colors that work best for you.
